Maintenance Coordinator

The Michigan Animal Rescue League (MARL) is looking for a part-time maintenance coordinator to join the team.

The maintenance coordinator is responsible for the overall maintenance and upkeep of the building, equipment and vehicles. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing preventive maintenance including scheduling of seasonal service for heating, cooling, plumbing, etc.
  •  Addressing facility, equipment and vehicle repairs when problems arise including serving as a point of contact for other employees when they need to report problems. The maintenance coordinator may perform some repairs themselves, when outside help is needed, find and contract with service providers to handle the work.
  • Some purchasing and inventory oversight including ordering and managing the inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and other items needed to keep up with maintenance and repair needs.
  • Miscellaneous building tasks such as changing light bulbs and filters, installing new appliances, performing repairs as needed, etc.
  • Ensuring that landscaping and snow removal needs are met including maintaining clean grounds free from trash, weeds, clutter.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness, organization and inventory of most non-animal related areas of the building including storage rooms and off-site storage units.
  • Making certain that tools and equipment are properly cleaned and stored.
  • ensuring that company-owned vehicles receive regular oil changes and tire rotations and other maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Other tasks as needed.

Candidates must have a friendly, welcoming demeanor and enjoy working with the animals, other staff, volunteers and the public.

Must have a valid driver’s license. Subject to background check. Schedule can be flexible. Some weekend and evening hours when needed.

Animal Care Technician

The Michigan Animal Rescue League (MARL) is looking for full-time and part-time Animal Care Technicians to join our team.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining overall cleanliness of the animal areas and providing direct care to all animals, including feeding, general husbandry, and cleaning enclosures.

Must be able to work professionally in a sometimes pressure-filled environment; feed and water animals according to schedules and established protocol; clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and yard areas; ensure all fecal matter and debris is removed from animal areas; observe animals for signs of illness and advise proper management/staff accordingly; bathe animals in accordance with established guidelines; exercise animals regularly to minimize the environment stress, complete laundry and dish washing timely and effectively.

Candidate must also be able to work professionally with the public, providing friendly and helpful customer service both in person, on the phone and at MARL events. Must be a team player, prompt and reliable, comfortable around dogs and cats of all sizes.

This position includes some weekends and holidays. This position also includes working outdoors, even in cold weather.
